(Most people have either bought this or had it given free with their machine.) although I cannot
obviously provide a copy of that particular program for icon-editing purposes!! (Please note: The disk icons will not show up in the draw, you will have to
copy them through CLI - sorry about that)
The 3 utilities are....
"ZAP" - This converts a DELUXE PAINT brush file into an icon image. To create an image with DPaint, use MEDIUM RESOLUTION and only the first four colours. When you are happy with your icon (It can be as large as the screen if need be !! - Note an animated full-screen icon takes up about 80K on a disk !!) save it onto this disk, run the CLI program and type the following ...
ZAP BRUSHNAME TOOLNAME
Where BRUSHNAME is the name of your brushfile
and TOOLNAME is the name of the tool you wish the icon to be called. (Note ONLY tools are created, if this is meaningless to you - tools are
things such as the Icon editor, Notepad etc and general programs) - Also note that you don't need to add the '.info' on the toolname.
When you have 'zapped' your image into icon form, exit the CLI by typing quit, exit or endcli.
"MERGE" - Icon merging utility.
This merges together 2 icons to form a third like the icon merge icon itself, animation can be achieved. When running the program, enter the
first icon's path (e.g. DF0: Icon1.brush - remember to include a draw if it is in a draw, e.g. DF0: toolicons/ icon1.info ) then enter the second icon's path. The two icons will be merged and saved to a third path which you must enter (E.g DF0: toolicons/finish.info)
Please note: Try to make your icons each the same size before merging - if using DPAINT - use the grid function to draw a surround box and use a colour other than one of the first four. That way it is easy to save 2 blocks the same size when cutting the brush from DPAINT and the surround will not show.
"EDITOR" - The bog-standard icon editor for creating small icons quickly, hint: work out which icons you are going to load before using it as you have to type the name of the input icon, and not select from a list. Also remember to actually LOAD a Tool icon if you want to create a TOOL icon, that includes loading a DRAW icon to create a DRAW icon. -
